ABOUT DR.FIXIE
I came from Valencia (Spain) to London in 2012 seeking a change in my life. I ended up conquering many challenges and breaking through many pre-conceived barriers.
Oh, and I fell in LOVE with Fixies and London.
You see, conventional bikes take very little effort to slow down on, each extra/added gear and brake pad robs the rider of a closer connection to the ground. To brake, all the rider needs to do is essentially squeeze his fingers and make a fist, dulling the sensation to the feet, legs and core/trunk of the body. Once in motion on a fixed-gear commonly known in some places as a fixie, the only way to slow down is to resist the pedal motion with ones entire lower body from feet to core. The faster one pedals the harder it is to slow down. The more core strength you need.
I was introduced to the London fixie community by going to @fixedbeers social rides and Critical Mass London events. I met the @fixedpirates crew and soon became part of the family. Visits to the BLB bicycle shop in Brick Lane roused my passion and inspired me to design and create my own brand.
In 2019 I began to bring that idea to reality. I bought some frames and started designing and building fixies. Searching I discovered the spray paint @spray.bike which I use in my works. Like a blank canvas, each frame had endless possibilities limited only by my imagination.
I ended up creating a collection of unique, hand-painted fixies that I´m very proud of. The feedback I got from the community was encouraging. They loved my first design and vibed with the message.
I found a tremendous joy and energy working on my passion. You all riders were and continue to be my inspiration. Now is time for me to return that energy and joy to you all. I will ensure my customers receive the best of the best. Our goal is to be the hot spot for those who crave total self-expression in their day-to-day ride.
